The Truest Playing Cloth

Cloth that enhances your enjoyment by allowing you to play your best

  • Simonis cloth looks, feels and wears differently than any other billiard cloth.

True to the spirit of enhancing the game, Simonis offered the first worsted cloth for billiards. Why worsted cloth?  Worsted construction means that there are no short fibers that can release from the cloth to form "pills" or fuzz-balls that have to be removed from the playfield in order to allow the ball to roll straight. Simonis cloth is incredibly smooth without felt-like fuzziness. Simonis' construction does not allow the cloth to wear like nappy woolen cloth which eventually develops tracks or grooves in the cloth, all the while shedding short fibers that constantly need to be removed. With Simonis, ball spin is consistent, and the roll stays straight and true on every shot.

Woolen vs. Worsted... no comparison.

  • The hallmark of Simonis cloth is its perfect accuracy and precision.

Smooth, even threads assure a consistent speed, English and cushion rebound. High wool content worsted thread construction takes ball spin more consistently and helps reduce ball burns.  This precise construction provides outstanding accuracy and consistency which is why Simonis has remained the choice for tournament play for generations.

ISO CertificationIwan Simonis meets the stringent standards of ISO 9001:2000 certification for the production and sale of billiard cloths, reinforcing our commitment to continually improving the quality of our products. In addition, Simonis conducts regular dynamometric tests to maintain the tolerances of extension, elasticity, thickness and abrasion of our cloth. These tests ensure the consistent quality of Iwan Simonis cloths, a fact you will be able witness on your table.

The manufacturing process makes the difference.

  • Simonis cloth is smooth and true.

Simonis Cloth starts with very fine combed wool yarn. This long-fiber wool is then tightly-twisted and woven (the worsted wool process) into cloth. Then it is specially sheared perfectly flat and finally finished in a tradition of craftsmanship that our mill in Verviers, Belgium, pioneered and has refined for over three centuries. The result is a beautiful precision cloth that achieves the smoothest, most accurate and most consistent play surface available.

The tight weave prevents penetration of dirt and chalk dust, and the twist of the worsted threads allow the fabric to naturally resist liquid spills and stains, thus greatly increasing the fabric's life as well as making it easy to clean.

  • Tough enough for professionals and amateurs alike.

Professional players prefer Simonis for the same reasons that make it great for commercial use or family play - strong worsted thread construction and high thread count resists tearing, scuffing and spills, and Simonis 860 blend resists ball burns better due to its high wool content.

  • A superior value

Simonis plays better, longer all the while allowing you to play your best. Because it is the most accurate cloth, it allows you to play better, which allows you to more fully enjoy the game.
An investment in Simonis is an investment in your enjoyment.
Insist on Simonis quality.

  • The moment of truth…

After your table is installed and leveled, it’s only you, the ball and the cloth. Simonis cloth is specially woven and sheared so the direction of the ball is not affected by the cloth. Whether you play for sport or reward, whether you spend $500 or $50,000 for your table, insist on accuracy. Insist on Simonis.

Stain Resistant?

Simonis cloth naturally repels liquids because we use the finest worsted wool, an optimal thread count and a proprietary manufacturing process. This keeps liquids from penetrating the cloth and allows spills to be cleaned up quickly without staining or damaging the playfield.

Some cloths have entered the market with a "new" feature... stain resistance. These cloths require chemical processes to achieve the ability to resist liquid spills. Unfortunately, the chemical treatment reduces the accuracy and predictability of the cloth, negatively impacting your game.

A new feature? Resisting liquid spills has always been a part of Simonis cloth. We do not chemically treat our 860 and 760 cloth, because chemical treatments could actually reduce the accuracy and quality of these cloths.

What are ball burns?

Marks left on the surface of the cloth that are usually white in color are referred to as ball burns. Simonis' high wool content helps to reduce the appearance of these marks, and we also recommend using phenolic balls to further reduce the appearance of ball burns. Ball burns from polyester balls are actually marks left on the cloth from degradation of the surface of the ball itself. Phenolic balls are much harder and are more resistant to heat than polyester balls. As always, the cloth and the balls should be clean. Any residue that has built up on the ball will leave marks on the cloth. Simple maintenance will prolong the life of your cloth, the aesthetic appearance of your table and your enjoyment of your game.
